Planning removal but a little confused..

I am planing to eventually make a trip back to California from Honolulu specifically to get my Amalgam fillings removed which are vast and a bit grinded up it seems as I used to grind my teeth a bit..

I am going to go to this brilliant man who was my last dentist back there and has the most advanced vacuum system as well as all sorts of other protective protocol like rubber dams, etc.

But as I research here, it seems that some people have had bad experiences after removal and DO NOT recommend it.

I admit I am a little confused, but I have also noticed that there is a heck of a lot of subjective analysis going on with people where some seem to be blaming the past procedure as the cause for bad health without much (seemingly) scientific evidence..

Regardless, my main question is: WHAT IS THE BEST FILLING REPLACMENT? Is it Gold first, then Porcelin?

I do not want to take any shortcuts, which is why I am going back to Dr. Reifman who is brilliant with high tech gear.

Any advice is kindly appreciated,

Brian
