The poor state of my nails

Something has happened over the last few months to my nails. They split vertically which is very painful and the tips of the nails which are white look like they are bleeding into the rest of the nail i.e. there is no line. My nails are thin and altho I have been putting loads of cream on them and wearing Bliss Glamour Gloves which are impregnated with lanolin nothing seems to improve them. Any advice?
