tinea versicolor fungus

my fiancee has a question. last year he was diagnosed by a dermatologist as having "tinea versicolor". its a fungus i think, its on his stomach and back, round patches, one shade darker than his normal pale skin. sometimes they look a little bit peely or scaly, but just slightly. thay have been there for over a year, they don't really get worse or better, just there.

does anyone here know anything about it? what causes it? what helps cure?
