Re: Easy to digest foods

Hi Libra -
A good way to think about what constitutes an easy-to-digest food is to think about it's water content and density.

For example, if you had a continuum of foods that went from easy to digest to the most difficult to digest, on one end of the spectrum you would have protein which is the densest, most concentrated kind of food and the most challenging to digest. Next would be beans/legumes and probably nuts. Then gluten grains, followed by non-gluten grains, then vegetables and finally fruits, which have the highest water content and are therefore, the easiest to digest.

Of course with fruits you want to take into account their sugar content as well. So best to go easy on them (1-3 pieces of fresh fruit a day). And if you have problems with your blood sugar, would be best to not have them at all.

I outline step-by-step instructions for an elimination diet, including meal ideas and recipes in my book, "If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It!" that you might find helpful as well.

Hope that helps - Good luck!

Kelly
