Re: Confused
Greetings,
I would just like to add/second Kelly's words about the quality of supplements and herbal products being poor.
Copied below is from my post earlier today in the Bowel Forum when I responded to someone that had questions about about a product/company; I have found basically the same information throughout several sources in the world of natural healing and health. AND, sadly, I've confimed it over and over and over again by emailing various supplement/herbal companies throughout the country to get specifics about their herb/supplement quality and production procedures.
>>However, here's the thing that concerns me (which the "herbal world" keeps as a "hush hush">>> lil' secret...grrrrr). For all of the bragging statements and assurances......you'll note that they say absolutely nothing about the herbs being certified organic, or US grown wild-crafted (wild-crafted means they are picked from wild growing plants). That's because over 90% of ALL herbs used for "natural" products in this country, are imported by two major importers from other countries (and the majority come from Eastern Europe, Mexico, India, and China)...and over 95% of ALL major herb-using companies (yes, that includes the biggest and most trusted names in the business!) all use imported herbs. What is wrong with this? For starters, it's the law that ALL herbs being imported into this country be doused with pesticides AND/OR irridatiated or gassed before clearing the docks. Secondly, there are no organic standards in these countries AND these countries continue to use the most toxic of pesticides known to man (including DDT, which is an extreme neurological toxin...it is reported that many people with neurological dysfunction have worsened after using herbal products; most all B vitamins are "naturally" created from human sewage sludge; recently a company had to recall product because of E Coli found in their product, etc). And thirdly, the chance that these plants were harvested at the right time and processed correctly to achieve the benefits that Nature has to offer...is slim to none. :( If a company DOES use only certified organic and non-imported wild-crafted herbs that are properly harvested and processed, YOU CAN BET THEY'LL LET YOU KNOW RIGHT UP FRONT! They don't really have a choice, their prices will be double/triple for the same herbs that other competing companies sell cheaper.<<<<
You said above: "I do buy some of the supplements in general brands".
Sadly, once again, if you are buying "general brand" supplements or herbals, it isn't really a question of whether or not you're consuming toxic substances, poorly processed, weak and/or ineffective products, that have a HIGH likelihood of being mislabeled or incorrectly identified...the only real question is, just what might you being doing to your body by taking them daily?
Please carefully research each & every herbal product and/or supplement you consider purchasing; you WILL find that the majority of them are not something you'd care to put into your body.
