There have been in the past - The Yamabushi of Japan historically did, but 'officially' the government banned this practice during the Meiji Restoration...but it does go on somewhat.

There was an I tialian in the Middle Ages - some name like Caravaglio. He is mentioned in the Essene books by Szekely if you wish to read something in print.

there was several ascetic Christian monasteries, but they disappeared with all the other heretics of Europe. Even the early saints of europe (before 10th Cent.).

You just need to be careful of articles in the Pravda - as they are hard to verify.
But it is a good read.
