Re: Perception of Sustenance
I wonder if Jane is discussing the modern "Breatharians" (and known fakes) such as Wiley Brooks and Jasmuheen, or alluding to those who may have existed amidst caves, forests and mountains for years, free from the enslavement of food? If her criticism is of the former, then I agree fervently; if the latter, then I am forced to maintain an opposing opinion.
Recall, if you will, that tests have been conducted in which "Breatharians" were proven to exist in a healthy state without the need for food; one in particular was shown to consume only the "manna" secreted from his palette. (The manna written of centuries past that could sustain and enlighten the awakened individual.)
I suppose it all depends on how far your mind pries and what you are prepared to consider. Granted, living on air and light does appear far-fetched to say the least, but after a fair amount of study on the matter I am most certainly open to the very definite possibility.
(I find the term Breatharian irritating and misleading, hence my use of quotations.)
