VitC/B17 - our progress

Hi guys,

I recently posted about my mum starting Vit C and B17 treatment and you guys told me to keep you all informed and make an online running diary of our experiences and progress, well here is the update:-

First Week:-

Mum was given the B17 IV first, then a third of the dose of vit c to make sure she didnt have any reactions. All went well first day.

Second day she was given half the full dose, the only problem we encountered was the nurse had extreme difficulties in getting a vein and when she did get a vein, the liquid pooled under her skin, she says that mums veins are very porous, 1) due to past chemo and 2) age and illness related.

Third day, she had full dose, all went well apart from 3 attempts again to get a good vein, in the end she had to use a canula and leave it in over night, which wasnt a good thing.

Second week:-

Basically same as the previous time we went, however this time, towards the end of the Vit C IV, mum started to get a really bad headache, and even started shaking, apparently vit c causes extreme dehydration as it is a duretic, so this explained the headache. She has to drink lots of water whilst on drip. So the nurse stopped the drip towards the end, as mum was not feeling too good on the 75gram dosage.

Following treatments, dosage dropped to 50gram because of previous reaction. Had problems again getting veins, my poor mum has bruises all over her arms with repeated attempts.

Third week:-

Is this week, so I will keep you informed.

Mum says she is very tired after Vit C infusions, but this wears off fairly quickly, apart from the vein problems and the shaking and headaches.

We have three more weeks to go, just hope mum gets through it, as we have to travel 170 miles everytime we go for treatment, three times per week! It takes a lot out of mum, but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

She has had no side effects from the intravenous B17, apart from mums vein problems. The nurse was even talking about going in her feet if problems persist, either that or she may have to have a line fitted.

Will keep you all informed!
