A lasting relationship has to be anchored on solid ground.
Nothing about this whole affair has ever been solid and please don't lie to yourself. The man has been giving you mixed signals because he wants the freedom to do as he pleases with the comfort of someone always there for him, but with no commitment on his part. This is not love, not even close. It is selfish and self serving.
Please allow me to quote something from the bible only for purposes of illustration: " A double minded man is unsteady in ALL his ways".
Be strong and take some time out for yourself. Build up your person so you know who you are and what you truly want and deserve.
As for him, wish him well and let him go on his own learning path. But you steer clear of him. A good relationship is LIFE giving, there is nothing of the kind to rebuild here.
You sound like a very nice person, someday someone will see that and much more, then they'll want to stay with you for who you are.
