Help with Chronic Pancreatitis

My husband has and acute and chronic pancreatitis for the past year, due to drinking. I'm happy to say that he hasn't had any alcohol since his first attack. The doctors have done every test possible and can't find any other reason for the pancreatitis. He has been eating a very low fat diet (30 grams per day) and is taking Ultrase digestive enzymes. He never has a day without pain. The last 8 weeks have been the worst. He is taking prescription pain killers which seem to help. He doesn't want to take them, but for the moment doesn't have a choice. The other problem is that he has had three failed back fusions and as a result has a morphine pump. Do you have any suggestions that might help his pancreatitis? I've read that selinium and vitamin c and e are helpful and also chlorophyl. Have you heard if these can help. Would a Colon Cleanse help, as he is very constipated from the pain killers? He is also a smoker. Does smoking trigger pancreatitis? Does coffee make it worse? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
