Shelley, I poked my nose into this on Ask Andreas

It was before Flimbs posted here:

Flimbs, I didnt suggest that your diet change and/or Liver Flushing have caused hemolytic anemia. I wouldn't even presume to say that IS definitely what you have. I just feel that as high bilirubin, coupled with low platelet count, are such classic symptoms of HA they should have investigated further. If they dont do that sort of thing in these medical studies, you need to get tests done yourself.
Like I said on AA, there are a host of causes of HA, including medications, infections etc. The only reason I know all this is that I had it some years ago and it was found to be due to a reaction to penicillin.
So dont worry, just find out if this is the problem and, if so, what is causing it. If it is the problem and the cause isn't resolved it could get more serious.
It isn't at all unusual for the first clue to HA to be a blood test, but if you have any health issues/problems they could be pointers to the cause.
