Re: Question about peppermint oil
I had a bit of peppermint flavored burping, and a bit of the other sort of gas. The first day, worse than I have had in many months, but now, pretty much nothing.
I am aware of the issue with the PO and the sphincter, but that is usually a result of taking the oil in a medium that allows it to be released in the stomach. It results, in part, from the relaxing affect on the smooth muscles that the peppermint oil produces. It also occurs even with enteric-coated capsules, apparently, as the oil is released in the stomach then as well. I wonder if an enteric-coated capsule taken with betaine would prevent that. Well, that wouldn't work too well, unless both were taken with food, and that is not preferable with the PO.
I was hoping that the symptoms were die off, and only today began to consider the idea of low stomach acid. I also wondered if my calcium supplementation could be having an adverse affect on my stomach acid levels.
