Yuck!
I just had the exact same expereince. I was in North Dakota and got a couple of avocados. They were the Chilean ones and they are extremeely sub par. Yep, stringy and tasteless. They sell them here sometimes in California too. From now on I'm sticking to Haas and whatever the other kind are.
