Re: Hurricane Season

Oh, Paulette, I just don't feel like dealing with this again! We finally broke down and spent $5,000 for hurricane shutters and my husband keeps saying if we never use them and wasted the money he'll be so happy. But he's just too old to be wrestling all that plywood up and down, over and over.

We sold one of our rental houses already and have one to go. I'm not buying any more property in Florida. I'm so sick of getting them repaired just in time to do it again the next hurricane! And frankly, Andreas has scared me off of investing in Florida at all.

My mom lost her fema trailer too and her home is still unfinished. She just can't find anyone to do the work except fly-by-night companies that need their money in advance. And since she just broke her leg she's really up the creek if we get a hurricane soon. She's tired of hurricanes too.

Here's one good thing about the hurricanes. Sometimes I just wander around my house thinking about what things I really would want to save and it makes me realize there's not much in my house that's "valuable". My "valuables" have grown up and moved out so I don't have much to lose if I lose my home. I'm really lucky. Hurricanes can't hurt me if I just have sense enough to leave in time :)
