Religion without God?

The problem with religion is God. People mistakenly try to define God and the path to God (as if only they know), and are willing to debate and even go to war against eachother for their conflicting views.

Religion is a natural instinct of humans, we feel drawn to re-attach to nature and the cosmos. The word religion even means re-attachment, as if we were originally whole, but then somehow became detached, and now we are trying to find our way back again.

What are we un-attached from? Everybody says "God", but that is just a placeholder name for something we have no understanding of, and perhaps can never know with mere concepts and names.
