For example:

At the University of Toronto, where Banting and Best did their Nobel prize winning work on insulin, stem cell research is being done to find a cure for diabetes. The stem cells would be provided as a replacement for the deficient pancreas cells, so that the diabetic wouldn't have to take insulin anymore.

In this case, the Canadian government is providing funding for the research.
