2 Things that help me deal with my alcoholism

1) I take kudzu extract to help reduce the cravings for booze. I'm most vulnerable on Friday and Saturday nights. I've been taking the kudzu over the past few weekends, and it's been a helluva lot easier to resist the urge to buy a 12-pak. In fact, I've been sober, all on my own, without any help, for 3 weeks straight. I think Kudzu is my new best friend.

You can find kudzu at health food stores in capsule form, and you can definitely buy it online. It's amazing that a plant that is considered to be a weed in the USA is actually a source of salvation to alcholics. Gotta love that irony. Supposedly the Chinese have been using kudzu for a couple thousand years to deal with the same problems. Some brands have only the root, but I've heard that for booze cravings, it's best to have both the root and the flowers. Also, even if you drink while taking kudzu, you are likely to become satiated on less drinks. There was a study done that proves this. The brand I use is "kudzu recovery" made by "planetary herbals". This stuff is cheaper than buying drinks, btw.

Also, I've been in AA programs before, as well as hospital detox outpatient programs to deal with my drinking problem, but I'm just so disappointed I had to wait so long until I found out about kudzu. When you have kudzu, you don't need things like antabuse or naltrexone. In part, I blame the american pharmaceutical industry. We have been suckered by them for a long time. To think that they are making money off of our misery with drugs that don't work. That's very shameful of them.

2) To deal with the insomnia, depression, crankiness, feelings of out-of-control chaos, low energy, I take 5-HTP, which you can get at any health food store. This stuff is supposed to boost your serotonin. For years I've had insomnia, and it's caused me so many problems in my life. After taking it for a couple of months, now, my sleep is always a minimum of 6 hours, and my dreams have never been more memorable. I used to never dream, because my sleep was so light and broken, thanks to the alcohol. Also, through having better sleep, I'm calmer during the day, and now it takes a lot more to get me pissed off or upset about mundane stuff. I used to have a very short fuse, through drinking so much (and not sleeping).
