"We alcoholics are sensitive people. It takes some of us a long time to outgrow that serious handicap".
Alcoholics Anonymous p.125
and yes... drinking is a means of coping... but then... coping becomes a means for drinking... which is just a round about way of saying that alcoholism is a progressive disease... try to think of the word disease as... "dis-ease"... for it seems that most are truly ill at ease with this world we live in... or the people in it... but this is not where our story ends... on the contrary... it is where recovery begins... for it all begins with "self awareness"... many of us in our active addiction are caught in a trap and are totally unaware of what is happening to us... a difinition of insanity that seems to fit us alcoholics is "doing the same thing over... and over again... and always expecting different results... whenever i took the first drink... i never expected to get drunk... get in trouble... or get locked up... i always said i was only going to have a couple...
there's a saying... if one gets run over by a train... it's not the caboose that kills you... it's the engine... which is to say it's that "first drink" that gets us... not the last... "one is too many... and a thousand is not enough"...
so... just try to stay away from that first drink... one minute... one hour... one day at at time... and keep in touch...
ok...
take care...
God bless...
and remember...
"it's a wonderful day in the neighborhood"...
and only you can prevent forrest fires...
lol...
