Printer problem

I have a Canon BJC - 2100 printer. A few days ago I tried to print out an order form and it came out very faint. I thought the cartridge had run dry (though it shouldn't have yet) and bought a new one. The same thing happened.

I noticed on the grey box that pops up when you're going to print that it said "The cartridge that is installed. Color." I surmised from this that it didn't recocnize that I had a black one in there and I can't figure out how to do this. I've spent hours on this and e-mailed the company's support system. They said to clean the nozzle (I already had) and if that didn't work to buy a new cartridge. Already have.

Any ideas? Pat.
