I cannot agree with Cathy's reply altogether, since if you live north of the Arctic Circle for instance you would never sleep in the winter months according to this theory! I would like to ask if the person with the problem is diabetic or if they drink a lot of tea and coffee with copius helpings of sugar. Another point could well be that this has become your natural sleep rhythm as it has been going on for ten years. This could well be the case if you are just waking up and then going back to sleep again. The more you bother about it the worse it will be. A light meal of lettuce and bananas a couple of hours at least, befire sleeping could be of assistance , plus an apple. Just eat these quietly and be in a relaxed and peaceful frame of mind when you go to bed. If you take your problems to bed with you you will not sleep. Leave them where you can better deal with them in the waking time.
