Re: Monovision PRK
Hi.
HELLO
I have no idea where to post this question,
ALL 'REAL" QUESTIONS SHOULD BE SENT DIRECT TO SOMEONE'S E-MAIL, BECAUSE WHEN ASKING THE "WORLD" IT IS HARD TO TELL WHAT RESPONDS AND TRIES TO LURE YOU DOWN A DARK PATH.
so if you might be able to direct me it would be greatly appreciated.
ALWAYS START WITH YOUR CHIROPRACTOR---IF HE IS ANY GOOD, HE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD SUGGESTION....
I will try to make this short.
LONGER THE BETTER---NORMALLY. ALL HEALTH QUESTIONS START IN THE WOMB AND SELF-CREATE THEM SELVES OVER A LIFETIME.
I had Lasik surgery over 10 years ago.
MY BEST FRIEND IN HIGH SCHOOL WAS THE SMARTEST KID IN SCHOOL, (HIS DAD WAS EXTREMELY SMART) HE WENT DIRECT TO EYE COLLEGE AND WAS TEACHING AT THE SAME TIME HE WAS BUILDING HIS DOCTORS OFFICE. THIS NEW THING CALLED "LASIK" CAME OUT---I ASKED HIM ABOUT IT? HE SAID IT WOULD NOT HELP MY TYPE OF EYE SIGHT ISSUE AND THAT HE WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND, BECAUSE OFTEN PEOPLE STILL NEED SOME TYPE OF EYE GLASSES, THAT AND SURGERIES CAN NOT BE "UNDONE". SO FOR ME, I FORGOT ABOUT IT AND DID NOT REALLY GO BACK TO HIM, BECAUSE HE WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE EYE DOCTOR IN TOWN, ETC. OTHERWISE I KNOW AN ASIAN WOMAN, SHE AND HER FRIENDS "HARVEST" DEAD PEOPLE UP IN THE MAJOR HOSPITALS "AFTER HOURS" FOR EXTRA--EASY $$$$$$-----SHE IS THE GAL THAT TRAVELS THE COUNTRY DOING Lasik" SURGERIES FOR ALL THESE SO CALLED "FAMOUS" LASIK DOCTORS. "SHE" CARRIES THE LASERS WITH HER AND SHE IS ONE OF THE FEW THAT OPERATE THEM. SHE TOLD ME THE DOCTORS ARE TOO OLD, NOT SMART ENOUGH TO LEARN THE PROCEDURES. MY DENTIST YEARS AGO CHECKED INTO LEARNING "LASERS", HE SAID IT NOT ONLY COST MILLIONS OF $$$, IT TAKES MANY YEARS TO UNDERSTAND AND LEARN AND TAKES SOMEONE "SPECIAL" TO OPERATE THE LASERS. THAT IS THE EXTENT OF MY "LASER" EXPERIENCES. I DO KNOW THIS ASIAN GAL TRAVELED THE COUNTRY PERFORMING LASIK SURGERIES FOR SOME OF THESE FAMOUS NAME DOCTORS ADVERTISING ON TV. THAT IN RUSSIA A VERY LONG TIME AGO----THEY SHOWED A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT RUSSIAN SOLDIERS----THEY GO TO A HUMAN FACTORY, LAY DOWN ON A CONVEYOR THAT STOPS AT EACH MEDICAL STATION AND WHEN YOU EXIT THE OTHER SIDE, THEY ALL HAD WHAT WE IN AMERICA CALL---lasik eye surgery, so all soldiers did not wear glasses.
It was great! I could see the first day and there was no recovery.
OK
Over time, my far vision deteriorated (near vision still perfect) to the point I was squinting to see things people around me could see with ease. I went back to the eye doctor and this time they recommended PRK Monovision due to prior Lasik/not wanting to disturb the flap as well as my age (40s) and the expectation that I may lose near vision as I get older.
THAT KIND OF HINTS TO WHAT "GARY' WAS TRYING TO TELL ME A LONG TIME AGO, it does not work for everyone and may not last.....YOU WOULD want to have heard EVERYTHING UP FRONT, before the first surgery........but that is what medical is------practicing professionals, they forever practice on their patients.
The plan was to correct the dominant eye and if I really did not like Monovision we could do the second eye.
YIKES------THAT WOULD RISKY
However, after undergoing the procedure, my far vision became worse while my near vision was unaffected. (I will not even get into the recovery, which was awful!)
SORRY TO HEAR THAT
Upon rechecking me for 5 months, the doctor noticed a slight astigmatism that was missed or not expressing itself at the time of surgery and suggested a revision. I reluctantly had a revision and now I have to talk about the recovery.
"GARY" MY BUD FROM HIGH SCHOOL THAT IS A GENIUS, TOLD ME MY NEAR VISION WAS CAUSED BY A BIRTH DEFECT, HE CALLED : ASTIGMATISM (SCAR TISSUE)AND THAT LASIK WOULD NOT HELP ME.
The first day was ok. I was not seeing great but could see a little better than prior. The second day I woke up in a lot of pain with a teary eye for most of the day. My vision was slightly better on the snellen chart, but also very blurry and hazy (and I was told this is to be expected). The next day it was worse and I felt like there was a vail of grayness over my eye, but no flashes of light or floaters. The vail of grayness remained with me for about 4-5 days slowly getting lighter in color. My eye also looked and felt gummy and my vision became much worse than prior to procedure.
During the healing process I developed a numbness in my eyeball that is still with me today. My pupil is slightly smaller than my other eye and it feels as though each eye is doing its own thing. I constantly worry I look weird to people. On days that I am really tired, my vision is worse and my eyelid is weak and likes to droop. I have become really depressed over this and do not want to leave my home until I can see right.
Today at 6 weeks, my far vision continues to fluctuate and is better when I have the other eye closed, but worse with both eyes open compared to before having any PRK procedure. My near vision is also poor in the treated eye with double vision (present only in near vision) when untreated eye is closed. However, some days if I really focus and take my time, my near vision in the treated eye is okay, but never with both eyes open. With both eyes open, my near vision is ruined. I can see things up to a foot away, but after that it starts to get blurry until I reach 5 to 7 feet. I used to be able to see a fuzzy on the floor and know it was a fuzzy, but now I have to pick it up and examine it to know it is a fuzzy. Also, my depth perception is not what it used to be, which is really bothersome as I never knew how much I relied on this for my daily life, job and hobbies.
In addition, while my treated eye was healing I noticed I could see much better out of my non-treated eye. It was still bad, but better than what the untreated eye could normally see. Now that the treated eye is mostly healed and distant vision is improved in that eye, my non-treated eye has gone back to the way it was seeing prior to surgery. Distant vision is better when untreated eye is closed and worse with both eyes open.
When I go to the eye doctor, it seems they only care what number I get on the snellen chart. For example, it is possible to see 20/20, but a very blurry 20/20 with a long time to focus vs instantly seeing 20/20 crisp and clear. I do not know what my numbers are, but I do know that overall my vision is definitely worse than before both PRK procedures.
Suggestions? Thoughts? What could cause my pupil to be smaller? and other symptoms? I really feel like I need both of my eyes to work together to see properly.
ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ARE FOR THOSE THAT DO THOSE TYPES OF SURGERIES..............ALL "EXTREME" STUFF.
It sounds more like you need a lawyer and sue them---but naturally they are "protected" and judges/lawyers all get a piece of the pie. ONCE under professional care-----it may be hard to ever find a "good" surgeon willing to STEP on the feet of the bad surgeon---they are "organized".
Wealthy people will leave America and go to Germany---the best american doctors will say "IF" you want to live, you have to go to CHINA or Russia depending on the disease a person is fighting......odds are, Germany can do about anything that can be done, but China/Japan are "different". In your case, the ONLY people that can help you are the types that cut on you in the first place. I know for example----elderly people that had such surgeries and walk out seeing perfect for 10-20 years, no more glasses, but RARE it every last past age 90. Surgeries are temporary, but often last as long as the person last.
I am glad I did not have surgery-----from reading the Dr. Bates eye book, I learned my eyes got worse every year because of eye doctors changing my lens stronger each visit. I learned to go less and less and my eyes got better with age. my eyes actually got better with age to the point my prescription became less each visit. Now the only time I wear glasses is when I driving a car, but very often I forget to wear them.
GARY the eye doctor started helping me in 11th grade----I needed glasses by grade 3, but did not get them until 9th grade. I was tall, so teachers always set me in the back of the class room..I could not see the chalk board and as a result, became a very poor speller. GARY, the smartest kid in school, made sure he set in front of me in class rooms and after taking test, he would slide his paper over to one side to let me spell check my test------Gary was a big boy and I was a big Boy----we were about the only 2 boys in classes that did not give the teachers a hard time every day.....I knew the answers, I just could not spell the words correctly. After school, Gary went to college and like most doctors, they are all of the same religion, same wealthy families and it was not "politically" correct to be friends anymore. His kind become doctors and rule cities, my kind milk cows. That said, I think he saved me by telling me long ago, to not have Lasik.
Your problems sound like "FOCUSING", so surely a "better" surgeon in the business should be able to help correct your problems.......
good luck
eye sight is the most precious gift we have---do not self-experiment with it.
