What happens to the parasite when the brain dies

I'm writing a story and I want to try and be as scientific as possible thus I need to know: what happens to the brain parasites if your brain dies? The parasite I made up controls the brain but needs it to still be alive. The main character was affected by these parasites but before they got to her brain she was temporarily dead for an hour or so. Would this be enough time to kill the parasites? especially if they were newborns? And I do know that these parasites aren't real but I haven't seen anything that talks about how the parasites are affected if the body is harmed. I just need to know how parasites normally act in these types of cases.
