Re: Is there a permanent solution for reversing exfoliative cheilitis back to normal healthy smooth soft lips?????

I haven't posted for a while, but I just wanted to add a bit of positivity on the forum for once because I never really see anything but negative things, and I don't like seeing people so upset about it. When I saw your post I just wanted to do my bit.

I fully understand your frustration. I've been through the exact same thing - being brushed off and being told to use vaseline. Doctors actually chuckling to themselves that they've got a patient with 'dry' lips coming in.

The only people that will be able to help you are the people who understand this condition; the people in this forum. The forum is the one resource we have to consolidate all of our individual approaches and experiences.

The best way to move forward as a forum will be if people suffering from this condition, like you and I, take a scientific approach, try new products, post progress with evidence, and give hope to each other that it is curable.

Please try what I've said and take control of your peeling cycles. I'm a 25 year old man, I've had this condition since I was 16/17. The first few years I was confused. The next couple of years I was angry and frustrated. The next couple I went insane with supplements and products to try heal. Since then, I've just ensured I have aquaphor with me, I keep my lips covered, control the peeling cycle, live a happy life, have a girlfriend of 4 years who understands the condition, have a good job. Sure, I get the odd comment about shiny lips, but as a woman you shouldn't even have that last issue as girls regularly wear shiny lip balms. Just giving you a real life example of how it's possible to be happy and have this condition.

I've been hesitant to post about my progress because I'm not satisfied I'm at a place where I'd call myself healed, but I have made a lot of progress, peeling cycles have reduced, and my build-up is arguably not even build up anymore, but looking like healthy skin. I have a few theories of my own and am planning to make a comprehensive post in the coming months, provided the progress remains.
