Re: Time of your life?
Oh, please, with the same passage. They were RHETORICAL QUESTIONS. Things to ponder. It's something for everyone to ponder, including me. If I'm unable to physically help other people, then I can find something to do that can help - organizing committees, contacting donor centers, etc. But, there is always a need for help and that inspiration is precious, not prideful.
By the standard of the verse, Mother Theresa's tireless work in Calcutta is diminished? Which one of us would be willing to give up everything and live in such a place in an attempt to bring The Word and comfort to the desperate and dying? Me? I wish I had that depth of courage, I really do.
It's not prideful to mention what one does. But it is, indeed, prideful to say, "I just spent 16 hours this past week putting together a house for a poor person in the community. I should have my name on a plaque for that." There's a huge difference between the verse reference and actually doing something - what? I should wear a burka when I go out and do the things that I do? Should we all try to go at it espionage-style? Kinda ninja-style, is that what you're suggesting? There is nothing more humbling than actually pulling on the muck boots and getting away from the computer to do something that might help other people. Sitting behind a computer screen is a pretty easy gig, I'd say.
No, I'm not expecting answers and it's pretty presumptuous to assume that my questions were demanding them.
