Re: Million Harpy March

I do not know of one female that I've ever met in my substantially long lifetime that wasn't either sexually propositioned or assaulted. Sadly, this happens within the human condition. Any other nation on this planet can boast dreadful statistics of rape, sexual torture, human trafficking, and abuse. Thailand, for example, has an enormous industry based upon sex. Men and women can purchase the services of prostitutes, or bid on the virginity of a child. And, in many instances, it's allowed because that dark and dreadful industry brings in a LOT of cash. So, in Thailand, there is no real legal protection.

In the case of the women who were harmed by Weinstein, let's get this straight right off the bat. People (including Oprah Winfrey) knew what Weinstein did. The ones who were not victimized were participants either to send new victims to him, or to enable his debauchery. Everyone who was associated with that predator should be investigated. Meryl Streep was touting Weinstein as the man who was responsible for her healthy career. The following year, she has the unmitigated nerve to claim that she was "unaware" of what he had been doing to other actresses, and it's all hot air. The "producer's couch" has been a running gag for about a century, now. Anywhere there is power there will be abuse, and pointing at Cosby and Weinstein as "the reason" for this sudden mass hysteria of women just does not fly. It was absolutely common knowledge that Weinstein was a predator, but people went to him anyhow and sent their kids to other agents and traded their innocence for fat paychecks. Look at Michael Jackson's settlements! People KNEW that he was a kiddy-diddler, and they still sent their children to Neverland and then settled for millions after their children had been molested.

When anyone trades their dignity for a paycheck, the predator is on the block, but so is the "victim" because that person wasn't the first, and they certainly won't be the last. This goes for men AND women. Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing is worth trading my dignity for. I've waited tables, tended bar, and worked in male-dominated positions for most of my life. Men (and, women) would say inappropriate things and make crude suggestions and requests, and I used my wits to deal with it. If my wits weren't sufficient, I contacted Law Enforcement. Period.

Last year, women took to the streets to protest Trump's inauguration. Okay. I don't much care for him either. He is not reason enough for anyone to demand gender-based privilege. Sorry. Nobody is privileged in this world, anymore.
