Breaking 10-day Water Fast - fruit juice or steamed veggies (or both?)
I've seen all manner of opinions on how to break a 10-day (or similar) water fast, with two general camps: those that think you should do it with fruit juices or soft fruits (watermelon, papaya, honeydew, etc), and those that think you should do it with steamed veggies.
I've also read that grains should wait a few days, and meat and dairy a week or more (although I know there's no way I'm going to wait that long to have the tuna salad with gluten free crackers I've been dreaming about for the last week!). On the other hand, I've also read about people eating a full healthy meal with meat to break a 10-day
Water Fast and feeling OK. The point being, there doesn't seem to be a one-sized fits all answer, and perhaps this is where "body wisdom" comes in.
I'm think that either approach is OK, especially if done slowly and deliberately, but I'm wondering what the impact of each will be, especially in terms of continued weight loss? I'm guessing that going right into fruits will stop ketosis and stop weight loss, while eating low-carb for a few days could lead to more fat loss.
I know that some weight gain is almost inevitable after breaking a fast, but I want to minimize it. I've read some people say they didn't gain any by careful eating, or only a few pounds. I'd really like to keep it to less than 5 (I've lost 17 lbs in 8+ days). I have a good healthy eating and exercise plan, so am not too worried about major weight gain.
Thoughts?
