Re: Please help! 40-60 day fast and feeling incredibly ill.

Oh sure! I would love to. I'm going to get super nitty gritty though. And I will share all symptoms that I have gone through.

I will let you know if I break my fast, but I am just so unsure, as I'm not hungry at all. Just feeling like I'm going to vomit a lot of the time, for the past couple of days. And I've come so far, so we will see how it goes.

Okay so I'm pretty short so please don't be telling me that by the end of the fast I would have lost too much weight because I will still be in my healthy weight range. I started off at around 85kgs, and am currently sitting at about 66kgs roughly?? I'm guessing. I only weigh myself every 15 days. I find that way I'm discouraged, and I can roughly guess where I am at and last time I guessed and I was .5kgs lighter than I thought I was, and it was a victory for me.

So I began this journey when I went to sleep on the 30th of July. So from the 31st of July through til today the 8th of September, including today that's 40 days.

Before I started I did two weeks of pure healthy eating, (no processed anything) before one week of fruits and pretty much just soups. Before beginning. When I get off my fast I will be blending Watermelon with water and very slowly sipping on that for a day, before seeing how my body feels moving into whole fruits and soups, for at least a week before moving onto true solids of anykind. But then again I will be very slow and know not to hurt or shock my body.

I have done shorter fasts in the past but my longest is low 30s, and I have broken fasts the right way and the wrong way, being an experienced faster. And let me tell you DO NOT ever break your fast the wrong way. Ugh it is horrible. And can seriously impact your health.

I have never quite gotten nausea like this before but this is my longest fast. I have experienced a lot of symptoms previously, but all symptoms I have experienced in this long fast are:

Temperature:
Expect to be cold, I was unbearably cold for about this first 30 days, I wore five layers anywhere, and for some reason the tip of my nose and my fingertips and feet were always freezing, unless my face, hands and feet were sitting in front of a heater.

Mouth:
Your tounge will be quite thick with coating of white film for a while, my breath is still a grotty but the film on my tounge left about day 30 also, I do have dry mouth contantly, just brush your teeth twice a day and your tounge whenever you want to. People tell you to brush your teeth all the time, but that is actually so bad for the enamel on your teeth. Stick to twice a day, tounge whenever you want. Carry around gum, just to get the bad taste out of your mouth. But if you use gum, chew it a few times and then spit it out, otherwise the chewing will start up your disgestive system and you will get that stomach gurgling.

Skin:
Oh god the acne, none on my face, but my back just has red dots all over it, like an Acne rash, I also have a rash over my chest for the past ten days. In saying that, it's temporary. Your skin does dry out, remember to moisturise after your shower, I use that in shower moisturiser because I am never know when being exhausted will hit, and I will not sit around waiting for it to dry. Just moisturise in the shower. Love it.

Exhaustion:
Okay I was reasonably okay until day 30 pretty tired, lethargic, but I could get stuff done, go to work. I can't now. I feel like I can at certain points of the day, but it's really not consistent enough. Your body goes up and down with energy. When you have enough energy, be careful, if you decide to take the dog for a walk or run some errands, the next day you could really be paying for it. Everything needs to be done really really slow. Your body is running on toxins and stored up fat.

Nausea:
I haven't gotten much nausea until this week before, I can't say much on it, apparently some people get it a lot, I haven't. This week it's been pretty unbearable, feeling like I need to throw up most of the time. But before that, not much. Don't get up quickly, you will get dizzy, pretty much the whole fasting experience. Headaches are common, generally leave in an hour or two, if not I had to use a paradol twice throughout, but that was really because I had to get through a function and couldn't without it. Try and avoid it if you can.

Hunger and thirst:
Water is your best friend. Let me repeat. Water is your BEST FRIEND. Buy a good drink bottle, carry it around with you always.
for the first 3 days, hunger and you wanting food is really really annoying, I feel like I almost need to be chained away from food, wait it out until 7 at the most, and the hunger/want for food will be completely gone until the end of the fast. Work out what you are going to do at family affairs, I know it's hard, but if you stop and start eating, it's really only going to hurt your fasting process. Tell people you are unwell, don't go, pretend you have already eaten, if you cannot tell people you are fasting, don't eat. Just don't. You'll stuff it seriously up for yourself.

Smells:
okay so not many people tell you this, but smells are so intense sometimes it makes you nauseas, and other times it's ogasmic. Well not literally. But sometimes you can smell someone's BO from a mile away, and you want to sit down because you feel like you may topple over. And as a treat after getting through a day, I open a jar of Vegemite and take a smell. And oh my god, it smells amazing. Also you will smell bad, I don't know why but to me, ketones smell like bad fake tan to me. And I cannot go more than two days without showering. I generally smell pretty amazing when I'm not fasting. But every second day at least. Shower, deodorise, perfume, then put on your clothes. I will not perfume after my clothes because the smell is too intense now. But before my clothes, then it's safe to know the no one else will smell your stench, cause it erupts from your pores like nothing else.

Toileting.
I have never heard anyone else mention this, so I will. I actually shat myself once this fast, first time since I was a baby. I had to literally walk like a crab to the toilet, and then I was so disgusted threw away my pants along with my underwear and had a shower. I didn't do an enema at the start as some people say you should, they personally make me feel ill, I've tried them, I even got a colonic irrigation before a fast once, ugh. never again. Some people love them! Not me. I almost pooed myself a few times throughout this fast, every week or so my body would find more poo from somewhere and try to flush it out, and you do a little fart. But wait, it's not a fart and then you are sprinting to the toilet. Just be prepared. Urine for me was yellowish the whole way through even on the days my body way pretty much inhaling water (side note don't actually chug down water, only sip, and only when your body wants it, but always be prepared and have water with you). Sometimes my urine was so yellow like after I'd been asleep it was almost orange. Ugh so potent. Just remember to flush it. No one wants to see that, not even you.

Sleeping:
Is shit. You need to sleep all the time but can't manage to sleep as much as you want. I drink so much water that I get up several times throughout the night to pee, (everynight) in fact just last night I smashed my forehead into a wall because I got up to pee for the third time and couldn't be bothered to open my eyes I was so tired. So shit like that happens. Also my dreams, I remember them two - 3 a night, and they are super f***ed up, like people without skin, people have sex with everyone, aliens attacking earth kinda stuff. Also my sex drive is pretty much zero during the fast. Although then again single atm, so could be a reason why.

Emotions:
Are all over the place, lately I want to cry a lot. Although I'm not a big cryer, so I just sit there when I'm alone, and wail like an idiot trying to shed a tear, because I want to get some emotion out. On the flip side, I got the biggest giggling fit the other day because my dad dropped a stack books and then hit his head against a wall, and it was really funny. So that can happen. It goes both ways, mostly if you live alone though, you'll feel a bit gloomy. Also you can get pissed off pretty easily, watch that, kinda halfway between a drug addict and a regular person so watch that.

For the ladies:
Your Vagina. I haven't heard anyone talk about this either but needs to be said and then I talked about it with some other girls that fast and totally normal, girls just need to know. You may start queefing. Ew, yuck. It's just air, get over it, but it's because of muscle tone loss and weight loss and your downstairs area is a bit more open now, just go to a sex store, buy a Kegal weight, pop it up there, a week later my problem was solved. Do it girls! Periods, mine was grotty, generally my period is totally red and I have ultimate pain for one day, and it lasts 3-4, but for some reason over my fast is was super light, blood clotty, blacky red, and lasted 8 and pain for two -three. So that was weird. I also during my fast I got thrush, not unheard of to get during a fast but totally something to be prepared for, because it was super uncomfortable, and pissed me off, be prepared.

Look that's all I can think of at the moment, ask me if there is anything specific you want/need to know and I will answer again thank you for replying to me, and I'll let you know how the fast goes
