The math error in the message appears to be that the person who wrote it based the 2.837% calculation on a single boron atom being present in borax, when in actuality there are four boron atoms, as evidenced by the formula. Therefore, the correct percentage is:

(molecular wt of borax is 381, boron is 10.81 so (4 x 10.81)/381= 11.3%
