Re: Scabies research

The problem with using ivermectin is that people don't use it for long enough. Two doses 10 days apart is not enough, because it doesn't kill the larvae or eggs, only the adults.

I take it 2 days on, 2 days off for 10 days, then take it once a week for up to six months, then another 2 days on, 2 days off if they aren't cured yet. You have to get the developing adults as soon as they hit adulthood, before they have a chance to lay eggs. Once they lay eggs, you need another 10-day treatment. It's a vicious cycle, and you have to break that cycle.

Inbetween, I use anything and everything I can on my skin. I've had a lot of luck with 50/50 castor oil and tea tree oil rubbed all over my body, including my scalp. That seems to kill the larvae, so doing that along with the ivermectin gives you a better clear rate.

I also use Nizoral shampoo all over my body like a body wash every other day. It's expensive, but it seems to help with the itching.
