A first pointer that might be helpful to you is that's good to become very careful about handling these samples. Use plastic gloves and a mask anytime you are dealing with stool samples. I use long bamboo sticks used generally for making ka-bobs on the grill to fish out the suspicious looking items. I use plastic containers that will be thrown away after the sample is photographed (or whatever).
You can end up with a big mess very quickly otherwise and if you share your home with pets or other people you risk infecting others if any material is left on surfaces such as the toilet seat or the bathroom counter etc.
Ill warn you it's easy to spend a lot of time staring at your poop. You want to diagnose what's going on of course. But, it can become very time consuming, much more than it need be, at least that's happened from time to time in my personal experience lol. I agree reading posts and second hand textbooks is helpful.
Welcome :)
