Re: Zapper Experts - Why 30khz ?
Yes, to an extent.
The zapper outputs only the odd harmonics of the base frequency.
The 29th harmonic of 30000 Hz is 870000 Hz and the 31st harmonic is 93000 Hz so that the 30 kHz frequency produces a signal that is within 30000 Hz of 900000 Hz.
The problem is that this is not close enough and also, most zappers are not accurate enough.
For example, the standard 30000 Hz or 30 kHz zapper has an accuracy of +/- 10 percent to as bad as +/- 20 percent. This means that the actual frequency can be anywhere between 24000 Hz and 36000 Hz and it varies from one unit to the next. Not a good thing IMHO.
If a zapper has a 1 percent accuracy, then the frequency would be 29700 Hz to 30300 Hz, which is much better but it is still not going to hit every microbes frequency.
Adding additional frequencies can increase the chance of hitting more frequencies.
One zapper has int the 30000 Hz mode, 30250 +/- 300 Hz and 29800 +/- 300 Hz
and Freq 3 30720
In this way, you have 3 time the opportunity of hitting the desired frequency.
There are even better multi-mode, multi-frequency zappers available with an accuracy of +/- 0.05 percent and over 270 frequencies in 25 different modes.
