When your hermeneutical methods are dictated by an absolute imperative to preserve a literal 1,000 year reign on earth at any cost, you have no choice but to subject all the other plain statements of the NT to the most tortuous treatment in order to avoid their most obvious meaning. Either that, or ignore them - a luxury you cannot really indulge as a Christian.
