Excited to try something

I believe one potential source of irritation for most of us is that when we sleep our lips clamp together and that sensitive area of skin which stiches in the skin of the lips to the inner mouth becomes sticky because the area is pressed together.

I don't think we should blame ourselves for this because during sleep, deep sleep, the majority of peoples mouths clamp down tight. In my view this is the cause of the stickiness a lot of us experience when trying to heal EC. Effectively two wounds get stuck together hence why they never fully heal. So far barriers have not been especially helpful in preventing this as the barrier is often disturbed or dissolved during the night from subconsious mouth movements or dissolved in saliva (drooling).

One thing I'd like to try is something I don't see often on here.. how to sleep with the mouth slightly open to prevent the upper and lower lip from contacting each other? I have a mouth guard which I had made for teeth whitening, the material is a flexible plastic only a few millimeters thick but it does not stop the lips contacting one another. One option is putting something in between my mouth to stop the mouth shutting but I think this will be uncomfortable enough to cause sleep problems, so it probably won't work for that reason.

I am currently surfing the net looking for mouthguards of suitable thickness and there are a lot on the market designed for people that grind their teeth during the night. They look to be a similar thickness as what I have already though, which is a little demoralising. I think you would need at least 10mm or more to stop the lips from being in contact when the mouth is shut.

The key here I think is not to have an open wide mouth during sleep as the mouth needs moisture and it may be difficult to sleep as the inside of the mouth will dry very quickly if it's not closed - just open enough to stop the lips contacting each other and stop the inside of the mouth from drying too quickly.

Please tell me what you think of this idea and whether you are willing to trial this with me. I have not found any solution to this on curezone as yet but I am looking.
