Re: Alternatives to Cascara Sargada and Senna?
Neither of those are recommended for long term use. They are stimulants and not helpful to the body.
You need to understand why you are constipated....it is extremely common BTW. My belief is that it is a deficiency of Choline due to a liver overloaded by detox demands. It is extremely common in people who have Increased Intestinal Permeability Syndrome aka Leaky Gut.
Lecithin which supplies PhosphatidylCholine can work well and it loosens the bowel if sufficient is taken. I mix 120grams into 750ml of water and consume about 20 tsp a day. Magnesium Citrate can also help loosen the bowel. Both of these provide other benefits, PC is used by the body to build cell membranes and magnesium is a very important mineral. There are Soya lecithin and Sunflower lecithin varieties. ATM sunflower lecithin seems in short supply for some reason.
Either or both can loosen too much so you need to work up to find the correct amount.
Cellulose fibre can also produce a gel when broken down by bacteria, which can aid bowel movements, therefore try and consume foods high in this fibre.
I was taking Senna a long time ago but stopped when I found better alternatives.
