I have been using this for one month and my peeling has reduced from what it was. It's going to take some weeks/months before your lips stop reacting to the old toothpaste, not to mention heal fully. If I was you I would focus more on what is coming into contact with the lips directly. I think the less ingredients the better. The past toothpaste I used was marketed as
SLS and fluoride free but it still had about 30 other chemicals with it which I think is the reason for the raw/redness a lot of us seem to report. I don't get the sticky/rawness now but it took 2-3 weeks for that to stop. If you don't try this one at least find one WITHOUT flavourings and see how it goes.
I think the stickiness comes from the layers of epidermis on the lips being stripped away from something in the paste and when we eat/drink this gets disturbed even more, it's just we've not recognised it's not the food it's chemicals in the paste. I think the redness is in the area where the front part of the lips stitches into the mouth and because that line is damaged the skin is just peeling off in scabs. If you see my blog it points towards a contact irritant as the cause of my EC, it is still too early to confirm, but the changes point towards this. I thank longterm for triggering my attention back onto this area via a post he made, and I became interested in spearmint (flavourings) which is a common flavouring in toothpaste, and I contacted the company who makes this paste, and the guy I spoke to had a lot of knowledge and experience of people with EC. He mentioned one woman who had terrible EC/bleeding/scabbing and her lips improved quickly from trialing another paste (not the one in the link), that they don't have on the market yet. Her lips were too sensitive even for the OraNurse. I was excited he seemed to identify my problem and I think it's the key for many people here. Don't give up hope.
