Re: Do probiotics permanently colonize your gut?
You could not kill your digestive bacteria! It could not happen because they are too resilient. There are biofilms which are so incredibly resistant that it just will not happen. If you killed everything you would die! Your whole immune system is the result of the bacteria flora in your gut, it controls the immune response, stimulating and retarding the immune system depending upon the bacteria present and the substances that they produce. Yeast are just opportunists, they use what they can get as they travel through. Here is the shocker! Everyone with a yeast problem is fighting the wrong thing and in the wrong place! The yeast is in the stomach!!! It occupies a biofilm in the human stomach with a gram negative bacteria. That is why people fail to kill it. It constantly releases from the biofilm in the stomach seeding the rest of the digestive system. The problem is the gram negative bacteria are also urease positive and they neutralize stomach acid which makes the problem even worse due to poor digestion. Test your stomach acid and I am sure that you will find this is true. If you fight the cause you should have more success.
It happens something like this:
A baby BEFORE birth is believed to have a sterile digestive system ie no bacteria. During birth as the baby travels down the birth canal the baby swallows mucus from the vagina taking in it's first inoculation of bacteria which travel into the digestive system and begin to setup the digestive mucosa and biofilms ie they protect themselves. Early feeding helps this by supplying the nutrients needed to construct biofilms ie calcium, magnesium, iron and polysaccharides. During very early life more bacteria are taken in from the mother, from her skin and from bottled or breast milk. This all helps to construct the microbiome and bacteria which implant into the digestive system. Before this is fully complete the digestive system is highly permeable. It is only when the whole colon has been implanted and the biofilms setup that things begin to stabilize and the immune system function becomes fully active. There will be no places for any bacteria to implant and any new bacteria can only use what nutrients are passing through but they cannot implant because there are very little places to do so, maybe some will die, anti biotic substances might kill some and spaces might open up but this is very rare as the biofilms protect them.
That is not to say that taking probiotics is useless because it isn't! They are highly unlikely to implant but they do help digest food and produce important nutrients while they travel through the digestive system. The more beneficial bacteria that there are and the less pathogenic the more chance there is that any beneficial COULD implant if a space opens up. It is not all static, bacteria are in a constant fight attempting to destroy each other and they adapt very quickly to try and gain advantage. However the biofilms are so highly protective that it rarely changes. It does not matter if you eat shit ie faecal transplant because they are not going to have any more impact on the implanted bacteria or biofilms than any other probiotics.
A good book I recommend which goes into more detail and provides a massive amount of research links is "Increased Intestinal Permeability aka Leaky Gut Syndrome - The
Science of Achieving Digestive Health" by Case Adams PhD. I have summed it up but the book goes into greater detail. It's not an expensive book and I found it very interesting and well worth a read, I read it several times.
The real problem occurs when a pathogen does manage to get a hold of the digestive system and implant. This can occur due to an unhealthy mother, possibly her sexual partners before birth where an unhealthy bacterial mix can be passed to the child during birth. This is why illnesses can run in families and mothers and children can have IBS and even psychological problems. This is not all bacteria because parent's pass unhealthy ideas and beliefs to their children. I have witnessed a father say to his young son of about 4 ".......little man!" referring to him as little man. This can be extremely damaging to a young child because the child fulfils the idea and becomes "a little man".
I once lived opposite a house where the man was a prison guard, I would guess at least 6'3" and possibly taller and very well built. His wife was around average height of about 5'4". She had 3 children 2 boys who were about 1 years apart and a younger girl. The boys had a friend who shared the same name as the eldest boy. Because of this they referred to the eldest son as little [name] and the friend as big [name]. I will not use the real name. This clearly affected the eldest son because his brain affected his growth and he fulfilled the little tag and was noticeably smaller than his younger brother. All because of the "little" tag he had been given.
Everything has an effect, even careless remarks and labels.
Biofilms are so resistant but it is worse because efflux pumps also eliminate any toxic materials meaning they are practically invulnerable unless the correct combination to deactivate the efflux pumps and degrade the biofilm enough to get anti biotic substances into them to kill them. Destroy the bacteria and you will destroy the yeast. But it is not going to be easy believe me, they are doing their best to survive! Prime real estate, first choice of nutrients.....perfect opportunities and they are not going to give it up easily.
Therefore if your problem is Candida ie yeast infection then look to your stomach! Test for low stomach acid because I would say that is the cause of your problems. I am fighting
Chronic-Fatigue-Syndrome not Candida but the same bacteria in a very similar but not identical location ie it is very closely located but that small difference makes all the difference.
When they attack the stomach it also affects the right transverse colon where pathogens often setup home because the human nervous system is so interconnected. This is why people often get IBS as a result. The attack is to the stomach but the effect also goes to the transverse colon.
BTW if you degrade the biofilm it will make you sick and further increase the permeability. It's designed that way for a reason. They want to live and it doesn't matter how much you suffer for them to do that! Ignore it and you will spend lots of money and never beat it.
I have tried to help you, whether you make any use of it is up to you. Read through some post history and seen people's posting history and how they react. That will tell you a lot about holysin attitude I think.
