Re: Ashwagandha stopped helping

If you suffer from hashimotos disease, Ashwagandha might not be a good choice as it is meant to simulate thyroid hormone production.

If there is any evidence of Leaky gut, brain fog and energy problems are common with this, then your detox systems might be compromised and nutrient usage could be very high. You might need quite high levels of selenium to compensate.

Have you ever tried siberian ginseng? That tends to sensitise the body to cortisol leading to a lowered cortisol output when the body is NOT under acute stress which can be helpful. However if the body is under acute stress the sensitising to cortisol makes the output of cortisol rise dramatically. I am type 1 diabetic and when my blood glucose dropped, cortisol skyrocketed causing cramping in my legs. Not pleasant.

Schizandra berry I used to have from a Chinese herbalist many years ago but I cannot say much about it. I am not sure that it is all that effective but it might have some uses.

I think that you need to find out what is really going on and what is causing the energy and brain fog. Have you checked your stomach acid levels by doing a sodium bicarb stomach acid test?

Low stomach acid also tends to coincide with leaky gut which might explain your hashimotos. Increased Intestinal Permeability Syndrome aka Leaky gut causes the body to absorb undigested food molecules into the bloodstream where antibodies are formed which could affect the thyroid gland if the immune system control is weak in that area.

Burping when eating is also a give away, especially high protein acid forming foods.
