No rock is more translucent and I'd say it's rather etched into the stone than inside of it.

I'm going to call a spade a spade and say that IT IS a TYPE of Hydra. There are some bubbles too, but the "reaching" tentacles are hard to mistake.

Sorry I'm not addressing everything as scientifically as I should : ) I guess size matters...
The hexagon shaped beryl stone is 1 inch wide and the hydra would be close to the size of hydra you'd find in a fish tank.

Google is okay, but I definitely don't trust it's telling us everything we need to know. What are some pathogens that hydra can carry? I think they can REALLY adapt, and grow larger depending on the food source. Form is changeable from "stick like" to the "blob" in a flash. Many heads or no heads...

Is hydra a culprit or doing us a favor? I don't know.
