Re: Why do antibiotics work on folliculitus?
Hi,
Not sure if anyone responded to you on this. Folliculitis just means inflammation of the follicles. The causes are many; could be fungal of various sorts or bacterial of several sorts.
Antibiotics only kill bacteria -- so they only help if the cause is bacterial. They would not help to rid you of a fungus. You would need an antifungal for that, which exist in both topical and oral forms. You should be able to get a biopsy to tell you if is is a bacteria or something else. I think folliculitis can be also just an inflammation, or so they say, although I find that confusing and wonder if they underestimate the causative factors of "skin fauna."
Also, some bacterias are developing resistance so the
Antibiotics don't kill them.
Here are some topical, natural and readily available things that kill bacteria, viruses, demodex and also fungus:
neem POWDER NOT OIL put it in aloe vera and apply
sulphur (try Nustock on Amazon)
sulphur USP, also on Amazon (put it in aloe vera wit the neem)
tea tree oil -- kills demodex too
Also
garlic internally, if raw and chopped, is antibacterial after ten minutes of oxidization
mint oil topical soothes pain and itch and kills bacteria
citrus oils topical kill bacteria
Don't take anything internally without first checking that it is safe!
Good luck
