Re: Mirena and breathing difficulty
I too have experienced serious health problems since having the Mirena inserted. I have had mysterious lung and heart issues. I have had repeated bouts of pneumonia and fluid retention in my lungs. I have never been hospitalized as an adult, other than giving birth. I have been hospitalized twice since having the Mirena six months ago. I have severe muscle aches, headaches and unrelenting bleeding. Out of the six months I have had it, I have only has 56 days of not bleeding to some degree. I got the Mirena for severe cramps and heavy bleeding. I have endometriosis. I do not need it for birth control as my husband has had a vasectomy. I have terrible abdominal pain, anemia, potassium defiency and the repeated breathing problems and my hair started falling out. I repeatedly asked if this could be related to the Mirena since it had all started AFTER I had it place. I was constantly told no. I knew something was wrong with my body. Finally, on yet another trip to the ER, a visiting physician was there and she looked at my symptoms. She was on staff at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, USA. She asked me if I had the Mirena IUD. I was stunned. Finally someone who would listen. She recommended that I have it removed ASAP. While it is claimed that serious side effects are rare, I do not believe it. Too many women are suffering. I have scheduled my appointment to have it removed and am counting the days till I can have it done. (Against the advice of my original gyno). More research needs to be done about this thing. My gyno is female, as are the 3 other gynos I saw about the Mirena. As one female to another, I think these Doctors should do more research and not believe all the stuff put out by the manufacturer. We must look out for one another. I would NEVER recommend that any woman get this thing. It has been a nightmare for me. I hope and pray that all my health issues will resolve after I have it removed.
