How I got rid of Blastocystis Hominis
Hello all,
I just wanted to share how I contracted and got rid of Blastocystis Hominis. I know that pulling this forum apart for information helped me tremendously and having this
parasite can be a very lonely and frightening experience, so hopefully my experience might be of help to someone else.
I had stomach problems for a very long time (some unrelated to BH, some that I do believe were very much related to it) before being tested for, and finding, BH. My health had been deteriorating for awhile and I finally had a bit of a nervous and physical breakdown. I went straight to my doctor and asked to be tested for everything. BH was the only thing that had changed.
At my doctor's suggestion, and in my desperation to be rid of this bug, I underwent a 10-day course of Bactrim and Flagyl (Metronidazole). I felt wonderful—and finally like myself again—about 2/3 of the way into the treatment and for about a week afterwards. Was re-tested three weeks after completing the treatment to find that it had not worked. At that point I had also started the GAPS diet to address both the
parasite and a number of
food intolerances . My version of the GAPS diet caused me to eliminate all starches, grains, dairy, nuts, seeds, nut and seed oils, fruits and sweeteners.
After a lot of trouble (as I live in Canada), I was able to get badbugs.org's triple therapy drugs: Nitadoxanide, Paromomycin (Humatin) and Iodoquinol, and took it, all while doing the GAPS diet.
Three weeks later I got tested again and still had Blastocystis Hominis and, accordingly, still felt like garbage. Two months afterwards, after moving to a new country and getting a new doctor, I was retested twice (and thoroughly) for BH only to be told that I was BH free.
I have since been slowly but surely been feeling better (all while still doing the GAPS diet). I think that the diet helped a lot with the elimination of the parasite, and have since met a girl who was overrun with Blastocystis Hominis and got rid of it by means of diet alone (though it took 8 months).
It has now been three months since I've gotten rid of it and I still don't feel 100%, but I do feel much much better. Hope this helps.
