resources on the spirituality of fasting
I began to explore
Water Fasting about three months ago for health reasons but I realised that my consciousness functions in a substantially different way when I fast. I feel more authentic, more tranquil, and am closer to the movements of my stream of consciousness.
I do not follow a particular religion, but have studied and taught Comparative Religion at a college. I am interested in spirituality, both within religion - Christianity and others - and also mystical teachings outside a religious tradition.
Could someone recommend a book or other resources on the spiritual or psychological dimensions of fasting? So far I have only my own experiences to rely on, but I am curious to know what others say about it.
So far I have found a few books and articles online but they did not really appeal to me. They had a strong evangelical, sentimental emphasis, which may be fine for some, but doesn't really work for me.
I would appreciate any recommendations of books, articles, videos, etc.
