Re: Anyone here have Carcinoid Cancer?
Hello. I, personally, do not have carcinoid - instead, I am a cervical cancer survivor and at the time of my hysterectomy, I had three large fibroids in my uterus that the doctor said were very likely to become cancerous if I didn't undergo the surgery. And a year later, I underwent an oophorectomy of the left ovary due to it being enlarged and extremely painful. However, I know something about carcinoid because my (adoptive) dad developed it in
.. hold on, I need to do some math... 2004, and he had had it for 8 years, so that means that he was diagnosed in 1994.
In any event, I have been fortunate enough to study and teach various biological sciences, including zoology, anatomy and physiology, and the like, and I enjoy helping people, particularly through education and talking about difficulties.
My dad had lung carcinoid (which I have discovered is now officially called 'neuroendocrine') cancer. But he was healthy for his entire life until his diagnosis. (He joked often that he took more time off in order to take care of me because I was ill than he did because he was sick.) He was a habitual (but not an addicted) smoker for, perhaps, a year when I was very young (about 5), enjoyed red meat and potatoes rather than vegetables and fish, basically just what you might expect from a man who had served in the army during the Vietnam War and was intelligent enough to enlist rather than wait for the draft to begin and had enough of an intellect to get top scores for the service in order to choose where he was stationed.
I don't know where your tumors are located - although my understanding is that for many patients with this type of cancer, there isn't a primary tumor because each carcinoid tumor can be comprised of only a few cells, but that each of those tiny tumors each pump out just as many hormones and poisons as any larger tumor.
Anyway, if you would like any further information, even ifI don't know the answer already, I am by nature an excellent researcher and will happily look into the subject for you.
Blessed be, and be well.
