Re: Just got diagnosed with folliculitis decalvans...now what?

I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. I've just come across this website, as I too have FD.

My doctor prescribed Sebco ointment, which is a strong coal tar cream. It has stopped the hair loss and I haven't had to take any Antibiotics , but my scalp is very tender.

I have since seen a trichologist, who has recommended the Philip Kingsley range of shampoos etc. They are very soothing.

The trichologist says that I must wash my hair every day.

When the weather is warm, my scalp feels very sore.

I have had this for a few years, but haven't had any further hair loss since using Sebco, but am aware that it can flare up again.

I'll keep looking at this site and any other sites, in case there are further developments.

I hope that we can all share information.

I have no idea how I caught it, but I picked up headlice from my children several times when they were at primary school (yuk) and have no idea if they can pass it on somehow. Maybe a hairdresser didn't clean her combs between patients? I don't know, as websites have suggested it's not catching, but it must have come from somewhere.
