I don't know the answer to your question. It's very interesing. I don't think anyone can give you a real answer on that, really. Iodine hasn't been studied thoroughly.
However, I think every year we advance in XXI century it's becoming increasingly impossible to live without any supplementation. Wether it's Iodine or just a few random supplements most people take and make them feel better, like multivitamins or b-complexes.
