Lifetime iodine dependence

For individuals taking Lugols/ SSKI for thyroid issues, or taking it for other non-thyroid related issues, are you needing to take Iodine for the rest of your life once you start? As in, if you stop will you go hyper or hypo because of the dramatic decrease in Iodine intake.

I wonder with kids that are started on Iodine in the womb or as a toddler, if they have to now take it for life.

Just a thought I had, what are yours? :)
