I find it somewhat irrelevant if Christ was crucified on a cross or a pole. What is important is His victory over death. I find the symbolism of the Christian cross (regardless of it's accuracy of the actual cross or pole) to be quite appropriate for anyone that knows what it means. The horizontal beam represents death that was always present to man, man is in a constant state of death. The vertical beam intersecting the horizontal beam transforms death into the symbol for life. Christ gained victory over perpetual death and turned it into the Life that precedes primordial life.
