Maybe we are getting definfions mixed up. I am defining nascent as monoatomic, an atom not bound to another.

In my limited chemestry knowledge I didn't know non radioactive atoms had half lives, but I assumed you meant a single Iodine atom degrades somehow. Maybe you meant it will rapidly form a bond with whatever other atoms are nearby
