Re: Psyllium Husks Powder Contains Cancer Causing Chemicals?
Yes, the Yerba Prima Colon Care Formula contains lead.
Their website has some propaganda about this, which I encourage anyone to read along with the law's requirements. California requires labeling about birth defects when lead or other hazardous substance reaches a certain level.
They require the addition of the "cancer" terminology when the level reaches 30x the original labeling-required level.
This very same law excludes lead that is "naturally occurring", as in carrots or applesauce. If the lead is truly from the plants Yerba uses to create their product, they could legally exempt themselves from labeling. They are obviously angry about the labeling as one can tell from their prop-65 propaganda and would have processed an exemption if possible.
The law is designed to warn those who care and encourage reformulation of products by companies. As you can imagine, adding a warning and posting misleading propaganda to a website is multitudes cheaper than reformulating a product, even with the loss of business.
As a loyal customer for many years I am very disappointed in Yerba Prima because absent the toxic lead, they have an excellent product.
I have not found an alternative, but encourage anyone who can find a comparable product to please inform the rest of us.
Cheers!
