Re: Can you smell TMAU on your body. Any smells and how do you know if you have this condition?

It's very frustrating especially when you KNOW that you practice good hygiene, only to smell like you don't. I smell every single day; no matter how clean I am, I smell of ammonia, sweaty clothing, mildew, cheesy, garbage and sometimes fish odor.

The ammonia odor is the predominant odor. Fried foods and hamburgers are the absolute worst for me. Cheese pizza, eggs, peanut butter, cashews; these leave a light fishy smell on my skin.

Spinach, certain beans and other dark leafy veggies make me smell awful too. It's basically a game of trial and error in determining what exacerbates the odor and what doesn't.

Also the longer I go without having a bowel movement, this causes the ammonia odor to worsen too. So I try to eat low choline fibrous foods like:

Corn
Quinoa
Apples
Bananas
Almonds
Walnuts
Raisins
Grapes
Popcorn
Salsa
